02 — HOW IT WORKS
Two paths, one platform. Select your role below to walk through the process step by step.
Describe the work needed, set your budget range, and pick your preferred time window. It takes under 3 minutes and is completely free — no credit card required at any point.
Within hours, experience-verified professionals in your area submit estimates. You can review each pro's portfolio, past reviews, years of experience, and response rate before deciding.
Accept an estimate to lock in your pro. Confirm the total and payment method with them directly — e-transfer is the most common method. Agree on scope and price in writing through the app before work begins.
Your pro arrives and completes the job. All communication and progress is tracked in-app. If the scope changes, the professional submits a change order — both parties must approve before any additional work begins.
Happy with the work? Confirm the job is complete and pay your professional directly via e-transfer or cash. Mark it done in the app, then leave a review. Secure in-app payment with escrow protection is coming soon.
A quick star rating and a few words go a long way. Your review builds the pro's verified reputation on the platform, helps future clients make informed decisions, and unlocks loyalty rewards for both of you.
Create your Fulcrum profile in under 5 minutes. Add your trade, province, and your experience. No commitment at this stage — you're just setting up your profile before our experience review begins.
Share your experience — upload portfolio photos of past work, add references, or describe the types of jobs you do best. No paperwork required. Licences and certifications are optional and display as a badge if provided.
A fast, non-invasive background check processed by Certn — Canada's leading background screening provider. The check typically completes within 24 to 48 hours and is a one-time requirement.
Tell Fulcrum exactly when you want to work. Full-time, rotational work such as 2 weeks on/2 weeks off, or weekends only — you control the calendar entirely. There are no minimum hours and no penalties for blocking weeks off at a time.
See jobs in your area matched to your trade and availability. Submit estimates at your own rates. You only pay commission when you get paid — there are no pay-per-lead fees, ever.
Once the job is done and approved, the client pays you directly — e-transfer or cash, whatever you've agreed on. No waiting 30 days for a cheque. Automatic platform payouts are coming in a future release.
GOT QUESTIONS?
Almost anything that needs doing around your home or property. Trades work like plumbing, electrical, and HVAC. Landscaping, snow removal, pressure washing, and hauling. Handyman and general labour. Automotive help — oil changes, tires, detailing. Tech setup and repairs. If it requires a skilled person, you can post it on Fulcrum.
During our launch phase, payments are arranged directly between you and your professional — e-transfer is the most common method. Confirm the total with your professional before work begins. Secure in-app payment with escrow protection is coming soon and you'll be notified when it's available.
Escrow payment protection — where funds are held securely and only released when you confirm the job is complete — is coming soon. In the meantime, we recommend confirming job scope and price in writing through the platform before work begins, and only paying once you are satisfied with the work.
The professional submits a change order through the app. Both parties must approve the revised estimate before additional work begins. This protects clients from surprise bills and protects professionals from scope creep without compensation. No additional work can be billed without mutual written approval.
All professionals are solely responsible for the quality and safety of their work. If workmanship is defective, your recourse is directly with the professional — through dispute resolution, their insurance claim, or legal channels. For higher-risk work like electrical, plumbing, HVAC, roofing, or gas fitting, we strongly recommend choosing an insured professional and use the "Insured" filter to find them. Fulcrum acts as a marketplace only, does not warrant or guarantee any services performed, and bears no responsibility for a professional's compliance with any insurance requirement.
Insurance is not required for all job categories. For higher-risk work like electrical, plumbing, HVAC, roofing, or gas fitting, we strongly recommend choosing an insured professional and you can filter for this. For most other services — handyman, lawn care, snow removal, tech setup, and similar — professionals are verified through experience, background checks, and real client reviews. Obtaining and maintaining any required insurance is solely the professional's responsibility. Fulcrum does not verify the currency or validity of any insurance and accepts no liability for a professional's failure to hold adequate coverage.
Every professional goes through our experience review process before going live. We review their years in trade, portfolio of past work, and references. Once active, their rating from real completed jobs is the most reliable indicator of quality. Professionals who fall below our minimum rating are removed from the platform. A background check is also required for all professionals.
Fulcrum is currently launching in Fort St. John, BC, with expansion to additional northern BC communities and Alberta planned next. We're built Canada-first — our experience verification and compliance framework is designed around Canadian regulations from the ground up.
Some are — and if they hold a licence or certification it's displayed on their profile. All professionals on Fulcrum are reviewed for experience before being approved, background checked, and rated by real clients after every job. You can filter by licensed professionals if that's important for your job.
Use the "Licensed" filter when browsing — this shows only professionals who have uploaded a valid licence or certification. For regulated work like electrical panels or gas lines, we recommend choosing a licensed professional.
Right now, Fulcrum is completely free — during our launch period we charge professionals 0% commission on every job, not just the first. Posting a job is always free for clients. The commission system below is what we plan to introduce once the platform is established; when we do, founding professionals will get advance notice. We only make money when you do.
We use a bracket system — similar to how income tax works. Only the portion of your job value within each bracket is charged at that rate, never the full amount.
$0 to $100 — free
$100 to $500 — 5% on this portion
$500 to $5,000 — 10% on this portion
$5,000+ — 6% on this portion
So on a $600 job, you'd pay 5% on $400 and 10% on the remaining $100 — a total of $30, not $60. Note: this bracket pricing isn't active yet — during our launch period every job is 0%. The rates above are what we'll move to once Fulcrum is established, with advance notice to founding pros.
Jobs over $5,000 are major projects and we want Fulcrum to remain competitive for larger work. The 6% rate on the portion above $5,000 recognises that big jobs have thinner margins and we want professionals to bring their best work to the platform at every scale.
FOR CLIENTS
Free to post a job. Optional add-ons for priority and peace of mind.
FOR PROFESSIONALS
Free during launch — 0% commission on every job. The low per-job rates below are what we'll move to later; no monthly fees, ever.
HOW PAYMENT WORKS
During our launch phase, payments are arranged directly.
Clients and professionals coordinate payment between themselves — e-transfer is the most common method. We recommend confirming the total and payment method before work begins, and paying only once you're satisfied with the completed job.
SECURE ESCROW PAYMENTS — COMING SOONMULTI-LAYER PROTECTION
Every professional is reviewed for years in trade and real work history before going live, and passes a Certn background check. Insured professionals display a badge — required for electrical, plumbing, HVAC, gas, and roofing work.
Post-job reviews are required after every completed job. Only clients who booked through Fulcrum can leave a review, ensuring ratings reflect real work.
Professionals are solely responsible for the quality, safety, and legality of their work. Fulcrum does not warrant workmanship. Clients should review a professional's portfolio and references before booking.

Post a job to start receiving estimates from verified pros in your area.
We built Fulcrum Connections from the ground up on job sites — not in boardrooms. We spent years working rotational schedules in northern Canada and saw the same problem from both sides: skilled people with real downtime and no structured way to use it, and clients struggling to find anyone reliable enough to trust.
So we built one place that brings both sides together. A client posts their job once — a few details and a budget — and the right local professionals come to them with estimates. No calling around to five different businesses, no waiting days for someone to pick up the phone, no chasing quotes. And on the other side, a local trades business, a licensed tradesperson, a shift worker on their week off, or a semi-retired pro can browse real jobs nearby and pick up extra work on their own terms — no chasing leads, no cold calls, just the work.
Every feature on this platform was built with input from working people. We verify professionals by their experience, not just their paperwork. Secure payments and escrow protection are coming — until then, we keep things simple and direct. We are a Canadian platform, built for Canadian communities, and we came up through that world.
Describe your job once, set a budget, and submit. Qualified local professionals send you estimates right in the app — so you can compare price and timeline side by side instead of calling five different businesses and waiting days for someone to call back.
Whether you're an established local business looking to fill your schedule, a licensed tradesperson, a shift worker on your week off, or semi-retired and not done yet — browse real local jobs and pick up the ones that fit. No chasing leads, no cold calls — just the work.
THE OPPORTUNITY
North American home services market. Fragmented, underdigitized, and ripe for a trust-first platform.
Skilled trades professionals in North America. An untapped workforce of rotational shift workers, independents, and semi-retirees.
Total addressable market in a single Canadian metro at 1% penetration. Three to five metros represent a $100M+ opportunity.
WE'VE DONE OUR HOMEWORK
Here's how we've addressed each one.
Platform bypass — customers booking direct after meeting through the app
Platform messaging keeps job records in-app. Repeat-booking incentives via loyalty credits. Secure escrow payment protection coming soon — will enforce on-platform transactions automatically.
Cold start problem — need supply and demand simultaneously
Supply-first strategy. Recruit 200 professionals at 0% commission before client launch, spanning all five service categories. Founders manually broker the first 100 jobs to prove two-sided value without relying on the platform.
Pricing and scope disputes — job complexity changes mid-work
Mandatory in-app change orders requiring mutual approval before any additional work begins. Dispute resolution team reviews all escalated cases. Clear audit trail of all approvals.
Seasonal demand swings — winter drops in outdoor trades
Diversified service mix (HVAC and plumbing peak in winter; landscaping and automotive peak in summer; handyman and tech services are year-round). Snow removal adds a significant northern BC winter revenue stream. Cash flow reserve modeled at 40% seasonal variance.
Quality control and brand damage — one bad job going viral
Three-layer vetting (experience review, background check, optional insurance verification). Post-job reviews required after every completed job. Workers below a 4.2-star average are placed on hold pending review.
Payment disputes — no in-platform payment enforcement during launch phase
In-app job records and written estimate acceptance create a paper trail for any disputes. Direct e-transfer is encouraged for its own dispute mechanism. Escrow payment protection (eliminating this risk entirely) is in development for a future release.
Worker burnout — high-quality professionals leaving due to poor job matching
Preference-based job matching (trade type, distance, job size, minimum rate). Professionals can flag and block job types they dislike. Response time SLAs ensure pros aren't bombarded with unsuitable leads.
Commission pressure — high-volume workers pushing back on the take rate
Progressive bracket commission — only the portion of each job within a bracket is charged at that rate, never the full amount. Clear, predictable, and fairer than flat-rate models. 0% for the first job. Commission calculator in the app makes earnings fully transparent.
Province-by-province regulatory complexity — different licencing rules per province
Compliance matrix built per province at launch. Ontario and BC first (most aligned regulatory frameworks). Legal counsel retained in each province. Regulated-work disclaimer shown to clients for job categories that legally require a licensed professional.
Liability and legal exposure — determining responsibility when work causes damage
Professionals bear primary liability for their workmanship. CGL insurance (client named as additional insured) is required for high-risk trade categories. Platform Terms of Service clearly establish the independent contractor relationship and disclaim any platform warranty on services. Platform liability expressly excluded for workmanship claims via contract. Legal fund of $50K reserved.
COVERAGE ARCHITECTURE
THE PLAN
Recruit 100 experience-verified professionals in Fort St. John, BC across all five service categories. Zero commission — founders absorb the cost. Manually broker the first 50 jobs to prove two-sided demand before platform automation.
Client-facing launch in key target markets. Localized ads, community geo-targeting, and insurance broker partnerships as a referral channel. Target 500 completed jobs to establish stable unit economics.
Expand to 2–3 additional Western Canadian metros. Introduce City Launcher roles. Focus on seasonal cash flow stabilization and deepening the professional vetting and insurance verification pipeline.
Methodical expansion eastward into Saskatchewan, Manitoba, and eventually Ontario. Ensure the province-by-province compliance framework is battle-tested before entering highly regulated eastern markets.
